I know a lot of people who continue to use Microsoft Office 2003, Microsoft Office XP, or Microsoft Office 2000.  Hey, if it’s not broke, don’t fix it. The only hitch:  If someone sends you an e-mail with a file that ends in “.docx” — you can’t open it.  But now you can!

With a couple of clicks, you can update your Microsoft Office 2003, Microsoft Office XP, or Microsoft Office 2000 — for free — so you can open the three primary types of Microsoft Office 2007 and Microsoft Office 2010 files:  .docx (Word documents), .pptx (PowerPoint files), and .xlsx (Excel spreadsheets).

All you have to do is click here to download the Microsoft Office “Compatibility Pack” for Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.  Follow the on-screen instructions.  Presto — you’ll be able to open .docx, .pptx, and .xlsx.  And it won’t cost you a penny.
